Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today’s post is a hot topic – budget conscious catering. Previously,  we’ve talked about ways to save on your wedding catering and like we mentioned before, be careful! As we all know, the cheapest option is not always the best and could potentially be disastrous.  There are ways to work with experienced, qualified caterers and still keep within your budget through menu alterations etc. Read more about that here.

On that same note, be realistic when pondering a budget for food. Think about how much your last “value meal” was  at your favorite fast food chain. Usually, the answer is close to $10.00, so be thoughtful when scouting for a caterer, especially if they cook on site. A lot of work goes into making an off premise catered event happen successfully.

For a menu that is budget conscious, we suggest something like this:

Grilled Cheese Panini

Individual crudités

Mini Mac and Cheese Cups

Various flavors of meatballs wrapped in Chinese cabbage

“Make your own” Taco station

Mini pulled pork sandwiches

This would cut back on your costs without sacrificing food quality. This menu would be perfect for a casual, festive reception. Remember, elegant and sophisticated events do not have to be black tie! This great article from theknot.com talks about casual wedding concepts with understated elegance.

What are your catering money saving tips or casual wedding concepts? We’d love to hear them!
